Computer vision is transforming conservation by enabling efficient, non-invasive re-identification of individual animals from images (e.g. drone imagery, camera traps). Algorithms learn to recognize distinctive visual features, allowing individuals to be identified across encounters. This supports population monitoring of endangered species, movement tracking or behavioural studies.
AI-based image processing enables automated, non-destructive inspection and quality control across a wide range of industrial applications. Computer vision systems analyze images (e.g. X-ray, microscopy) to perform tasks such as weld seam and solder joint inspection, bottle fill-level checks, color control, microstructure and particle analysis, object counting, and anomaly detection.
Modern medicine increasingly benefits from artificial intelligence. Applications include computer-aided diagnosis (e.g. cancer screening), non-invasive disease localization (e.g. tumor detection), and the creation of digital patient models (e.g. organ segmentation). AI-based image analysis is applied to both 2D image data such as X-rays and 3D data such as volumetric CT scans.
